N-OST-algia

Writer's picture: Caroline ChenCaroline Chen

It's 10:30pm now and I'm reading Robinson Crusoe for class. It's an adventure/travel story, similar to Cast Away (the movie starring Tom Hanks). I'm reading it for a class called Utopia & the Pandemic, so we are discussing it in relation to Thomas More's Utopia. It's interesting because More's Utopia is the book that introduced the term "utopia" to us! So cool, that we can trace this word to a specific point in the history of literature.

While reading, I got sidetracked and started watching some of my old vlogs from back on campus. Ah... I'm so glad I filmed back then. I can't wait to watch them 10 years down the line and reflect on the past and everything that's happened. It feels so weird to see everyone walking around without masks on. Definitely would have been considered an anachronistic practice for "back then" haha, but still. 😉

Omg. Love U by Howl just came on while I was typing this. Any Boys Over Flowers fans out there? Goosebumps! Literally! I watched the entire series for the first time when I was a pre-teen and loved it. Still do. Korean drama OSTs (aka official sound tracks) just hit different. Some songs are so romantic and emotional that you don't need context to understand and enjoy them, but I feel like the bulk of enjoyment from the songs on OSTs is knowing them in the context of particular dramas. Like, enjoying a dish not because of the way it tastes, but because of who you were with when you were eating it.

Lotsa n-OST-algia tonight. 😌
