I just discovered the "task" option on Google Calendar. I think I'll be using it a lot more often in the future. :)
A "task" basically the same as a regular G-Cal event, just a lot simpler: no inviting other people or adding locations or any of that jazz, so you can just name it something quick that reminds you what you need to do. The bubble that represents a "task" looks different from an event bubble, so it helps you to visually recognize when you have a concrete thing to complete (versus when you have to go somewhere).
I use my G-Cal as a planner and often put everything I needed to do as an "event" (e.g., "email so-and-so back" or "put laundry in dryer"), which led to a pretty cluttered schedule. It made me feel busier than I actually was, and I would sometimes delete the events after completing them just to declutter my schedule (it's a great feeling to remove past events off your schedule into the ether).
With the "task" option, you can actually mark the task complete, which crosses it off for you like a real to-do list! It helps you keep a record of what you've accomplished, since deleting an event basically removes all traces of it. But, you still get that nice feeling of productiveness.
So, yup! If you weren't aware already, I hope this post brings you some new insight into a quick tool to help with your schedule management.
